Calgary and Vancouver Teams Play Hockey for Food
Hungry? Most of us don’t know the true meaning of that word. Now what if you extend that to your entire family? Unfortunately, this is a reality that people face in our communities every day. On July 14, the Marketwired Calgary team, supported by their loved ones, played hockey for food in downtown Calgary, AB. Just a few days later, on July 18, the Marketwired Vancouver team did the very same thing and joined Mining for Food
, a street hockey tournament, in downtown Vancouver, BC.
Marketwired has partnered with Five Hole For Food
(FHFF) for many years, helping them get the word out via traditional and social channels for their annual cross-Canada tour to help raise funds and gather food for food banks in each city they visit. This year the Calgary team gathered and donated food items and played to an impressive record of two wins and one tie! The true winner was the Calgary Food Bank
, which supplies more than 130,000 people in Calgary with food every year.
“A couple of us have been to the Calgary FHFF event in prior years and have joined in on many pick-up games. Other team members have also donated their personal time at the Calgary Food Bank itself, so we thought this was a great opportunity to bring the team together in support of both great organizations,” said Marketwired Director of Sales Jay Cloutier.
A few days later, the FHFF team made its final stop in Vancouver, BC. The biggest event of the tour had six rinks and many options to get in on the action. The Marketwired Vancouver team decided to join for the very first time this year and made a big splash! Deciding to join the Mining for Food court, Marketwired donated $500 to the cause and played seven games. They ended the mini-tournament with an impressive five wins and two losses.
Andrew Moncur of Marketwired stated, “Each team brought a good vibe and a competitive drive – all for charity and all in the spirit of chasing the Mining for Food trophy. Though close, Sandstorm Gold defeated the tenacious Marketwired Fighting Mice twice to taste glorious victory. We enjoyed our second place showing and will be back next year for more!”
In its 6th annual tour across Canada, Five Hole for Food has raised in excess of 1,500,000 pounds of food in support of local food banks across Canada. Their vision sums it up best: “Five Hole for Food unites communities through sporting events designed to engage, motivate, and inspire Canadians to take up the call of social, sustainable philanthropy using hockey as a vehicle for social change in order to raise food, funds and awareness for food banks across Canada.”
We are proud to be a partner and thankful Marketwired could join in on the experience.
