Marketwired Rides to Fundraising Success

Day of Pedaling Benefits the Heart and Stroke Foundation

It was a sunny, still morning – perfect for a bicycle ride – so with determination in our hearts, coffee in our veins, and shoes on our pedals, 14 intrepid souls from Marketwired joined 14,000 other Torontonians on June 1 for the annual Ride for Heart.

It’s difficult not to feel a thrill during this event, which takes participants on a choice of distances from 25-75 km  through Toronto’s downtown core to north of the city and back again. Not only does it raise money for a great cause – the Heart and Stroke Foundation – but a major freeway and several roads are closed to cars, making the two-wheeler king for the day and giving riders a view of the city they normally don’t enjoy from the seat of a bike.

So how did we do? Well, we made it through with no flat tires, no blisters and lots of energy left at the end for refueling at our VIP table. And most important, we raised close to $2,791, almost $200 per rider. This total was increased by a corporate donation from Marketwired of $1,400, which put us over four times our corporate goal! It all adds up to Marketwired being part of an effort that raised a total of $6 million for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Our company was ably represented on the ride by employees from our engineering, media relations, finance, editorial and legal teams. (And is it any surprise that, given our reputation for collaboration, two from the Marketwired team pedaled a tandem bike?

Of course, in addition to those who actually rode in the event, many more employees showed their support through generous donations. Our success was truly a team achievement, and it’s left us with just one question – how can we surpass this year’s achievement on next year’s Ride for Heart? Well, maybe YOU could join us; watch for details on how to sign up early next year, or talk to Eddie Kim or Catharine Hancock for more information.
