Labor Records Joins the Naxos Family of Distributed Labels

FRANKLIN, TN and SILVER SPRINGS, MD--(Marketwire - May 10, 2010) -  Beginning on May 1, 2010, Naxos of America will begin distribution of the American label Labor Records in the United States and Canada.

Founded by composer/producer Heiner Stadler, Labor Records produces classical, jazz, and world music recordings. Labor's current catalogue focuses on unusual and often unknown repertoire coupled with landmark editions such as the complete keyboard works of J. S. Bach performed by legendary Brazilian pianist João Carlos Martins.

May releases include German composer Walter Steffen's Guernica and Other Paintings: Picasso, Munch, Bosch, Chagall. Steffens' compositions transpose paintings into musical works by means of allusions, associations, and experimental treatments of the paintings' corresponding formal elements, made possible by his extensive musical vocabulary and uncommonly strong emotional response to art. Also new on Labor is Broken Promise/The Blood Feud in Albania, a radio documentary directed and produced by Jean-Claude Kuner, a prize-winning Swiss-German author/producer. The recording features natural sounds and traditional music, and follows Stavri, a 21-year-old Albanian history student, who explores age-old common law traditions in their new and even more violent and lawless form.

Other highlights include "Music of Tribute," Labor's ambitious piano series, as well as music by Hanns Eisler/Bertolt Brecht; Bulgaria's Ivan Spassov, Albania's Aleksandër Peçi, Uruguay's Eduardo Fernández, and Brazil's Duo Caramuru/Baldanza.
