Megadyne Awarded "Most Green Product" at AORN Congress -- Two Years in a Row

SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwire - June 3, 2010) -  For the second consecutive year, Megadyne won the Most Green Product Award at AORN's (the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses) 57th Annual Congress. Congress attendees selected Megadyne out of the over 500 exhibitors for this prestigious award.

"We are extremely excited about winning back-to-back awards for our green products," said Michael Hintze, vice president of Marketing at Megadyne. "This honor is especially meaningful as it comes from our customers. Even before shining a spotlight on the importance of being green this practice was part of our culture. We recognize the vital importance of our stewardship to develop and provide electrosurgical products that help preserve and protect our environment."

Megadyne's green reusable and resposable product lines include the:

  • Mega Soft® and Mega Soft Pediatric reusable patient return electrodes. One Megadyne Mega Soft reusable patient return electrode can eliminate, on average, 1,500 disposable sticky pads. In addition to decreasing waste, reusable and resposable technologies deliver savings to a facility's bottom line by reducing purchasing frequency and disposal cost.
  • E-Z Pen™ Electrosurgical Pencil, the 12-time use E-Z Pen that produces 1/12th the waste of standard disposable electrosurgical pencils. The E-Z Pen uses patented technology to count the number of times the pencil has been used and then disables future use of the pencil once it has reached its end-of-life to insure the product is safe and effective for every procedure.
  • Resposable Laparoscopic Electrodes with Indicator Shaft®, combines a reusable shaft with a disposable non-stick E-Z Clean® electrode. The patented Indicator Shaft alerts clinicians when a breach in the insulation has occurred and it is no longer safe to use.
  • Reusable Stainless Steel Laparoscopic Electrodes with Indicator Shaft, is a stainless steel instrument with the patented Indicator Shaft which alerts clinicians when a breach in the insulation has occurred and it is no longer safe to use.

To help evaluate a facility's green potential, Megadyne also introduced the Green Calculator to easily compare and contrast the waste that can be saved by switching from disposable electrosurgical tools to green, reusable technologies.
