Founded in 2008 by sound engineers Jonas Niederstadt and Johannes Wallbrecher, Carpe Diem (www.carpediem-records.de) specializes in early, improvised (jazz), and new music. With an emphasis on sound quality, the label records in old churches, monasteries and historic concert halls which offer optimum acoustical conditions. Some of the performing artists who record for Carpe Diem include French tuba player, jazz musician, and composer Michel Godard; Hille Perl, one of the world's finest viola da gamba players; and early music specialist and cornettist William Dongois.

TwoPianists Records (www.twopianists.com) is an independent music company founded by South-African-born pianist Nina Schumann and her husband, the Portuguese pianist Luis Magalhães. Based in Stellenbosch, South Africa, the label is devoted to promoting classical music performed by artists who have inspired its founders. New releases for August include a recording featuring Ms. Schumann and Mr. Magalhães performing works by Brahms, Lutosławski, Arensky, and Copland; a disc of works by Rachmaninoff; and a recording of Vivaldi's and Piazzolla's Four Seasons, with violinist Daniel Rowland.

The German label Solo Musica (www.solo-musica.de) works closely at all stages with the outstanding composers and performers featured on its recordings. The label offers traditional and unconventional classical music, featuring artists such as Markus Becker, Julius Berger, Casal Quartet, Diana Damrau, Friedemann Eichhorn, Gewandhaus Quartet, Peter Horton, Kalandos Ensemble, Hansjörg Schellenberger and many more. In August, the label releases a recording featuring pianist Nikolai Tokarev performing jazz-inspired works by pianist-composer Alexander Rosenblatt.
