ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - December 20, 2010) - Marvin (Marv) L. Woodall, former president of Johnson & Johnson Interventional Systems (JJIS), Inc., will be the keynote speaker for the SEMDA 2011 Conference. Mr. Woodall's illustrious career most recently included serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the non-profit Cardiovascular Research Foundation from 2006-2009.
The Southeastern Medical Device Association's (SEMDA) 5th annual conference will take place on March 29-30, 2011, adding a half day to the popular medical device event. Recognized as the premier gathering for the Southeast medical device industry, the conference balances presentations by medical device companies to investors with educational programs and networking opportunities.
Mr. Woodall currently serves as an advisor or a member of the board of directors to several medical and healthcare private companies and hospitals, including Atlanta's CardioMEMs, Inc. and Icon Interventional. He has served as the Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prescient Medical, Inc. since June 2004. He is a member of the boards of directors of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation in New York, the International Society of Endovascular Specialists, and several community-based organizations in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Woodall's distinguished career at Johnson & Johnson spanned nearly 37 years; during that time he led the team responsible for pioneering the company's cardiovascular franchise into a $1 billion division. In 1995, he initiated the research program at JJIS/Cordis that led to the first drug coated stent: Cypher® Drug Eluting Stent. He also was actively involved in process of bringing the first major balloon expandable coronary stent to market. The PALMAZ-SCHARTZ® Coronary Stent was named "the most important new medical device in 15 years" by a vote of medical device company CEOs in 1994.
After retiring from Johnson & Johnson in 2001, Mr. Woodall became the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Lehigh Valley (Pa.) Hospital and Health Network, which received multiple awards as one of the leading hospital systems in America. He served in that position through 2004.
Mr. Woodall received a B.B.A. degree in management and finance from the University of Oklahoma and has participated in senior level management programs at Harvard, Columbia and Duke Universities.
