Laser Resurfacing Recovery Guide With Vancouver Skin Care Specialist

NORTH VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwire - Sep 13, 2012) - Dr. Shehla Ebrahim, a practitioner of laser skin resurfacing, offers cosmetic treatments for conditions ranging from deep wrinkles to surgical scars. She provides her patients with medical expertise at Afterglow, her Vancouver skin care practice, but she is just as concerned about her patients' well being after the treatments are completed. Dr. Ebrahim wants to inform her patients about the necessary steps they should take after their procedures to optimize their results.

The Vancouver skin care specialist says a patient's post-procedure recovery time depends on the individual and the aggressiveness of the treatment. Variables such as the depth and severity of wrinkles, the degree of photodamage, and the severity of aging are all taken into account when deciding how to tailor any skin care treatment, including laser resurfacing. The aggressiveness of the treatment also depends on the amount of downtime a patient is able to manage. A patient can expect to recover from a lighter resurfacing over a weekend whereas more aggressive treatments require the patient to stay indoors for seven to ten days. Dr. Ebrahim says the results of laser resurfacing are long lasting -- typically the results of a single treatment last ten years or more.

Dr. Ebrahim says patients can do a lot on their part to maintain and improve the outcome of a laser resurfacing procedure. Avoiding the sun, the judicious use of sunscreen, and the use of cosmeceuticals (consisting of high concentrations of medical-grade Retinoic acid, Vitamin C, and glycolics) will all enhance the patients' results. Typically, Dr. Ebrahim combines laser resurfacing treatments with prescription creams to improve therapeutic results. If light resurfacing is performed for sun damage, then a prescription of hydroquinone, kojic, and Vitamin C are compounded by a pharmacist and prescribed for the patient to use two weeks prior to the procedure followed by the regular use of Vitamin C post-procedure. For wrinkles and fine lines, she commonly recommends high concentrations of Retinoic acid, hyaluronidase acid, and Vitamin C.

Dr. Ebrahim cautions prospective patients that many non-medical practitioners are performing laser resurfacing treatments. She wants to educate the public that laser resurfacing is a medical procedure that should only be performed by an experienced, medically licensed practitioner. At Afterglow, Dr. Ebrahim's practice for Physician Directed Medical Aesthetics, she offers her medical expertise in laser resurfacing along with a wide spectrum of other skin treatment services, ranging from Ultherapy® to BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers.
