AlliedBarton Security Services, HR Plus, Forest Advisors and the Schaumburg Police Department Present a Free Workplace Violence Prevention Seminar

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Sep 24, 2012) - AlliedBarton Security Services, the industry's premier provider of highly trained security personnel, and HR Plus, a leading provider of comprehensive solutions for employment and background screening, in partnership with Forest Advisors and the Schaumburg Police Department, will host a free workplace violence prevention seminar. The seminar will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Baxter, One Baxter Parkway, Deerfield, IL. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Domestic violence awareness will be a topic of this event as October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. "Started in 1987, Domestic Violence Awareness Month provides a designated time when public agencies and private companies sponsor programs and disseminate information to alert workers to the prevalence and severity of domestic violence," said Pam Paziotopoulos, Senior Vice President, Workplace & Intimate Partner Violence, Forest Advisors. "Employers should collaborate with these organizations to create safety plans for victims, educate the public about domestic violence and disseminate resources and referral information to victims."

"Although violence in the workplace is not a new phenomenon, having plans to mitigate, prepare, respond and recover from such events is not only necessary, but expected by employees in the workplace today," stated Sgt Michael Gerard, Schaumburg Police Department. "Planning for potential hazards in the workplace and training employees is one of the most important steps in providing a safe work environment. This can only be accomplished by partnering with local law enforcement and emergency management, company leadership and your security staff. As a member of the Schaumburg Police Department one of my primary responsibilities is emergency planning and training for the police department, commercial facilities, schools and the large retail sector within Schaumburg."

"Everyone in an organization has an important role in workplace violence prevention," said Brent O'Bryan, SPHR, AlliedBarton's Vice President of Learning & Development. "From the CEO and President, down to the general employee population, it is imperative that everyone works together to increase awareness and education of workplace violence and its risks. We are in the fight to stop violence together. By having seminars such as this, organizations can partner with other businesses, local law enforcement and emergency responders to take a proactive stance against workplace violence in their work environment."

Seminar discussion topics will include domestic violence and its impact on the workplace; recognizing and preventing workplace violence; and responding to an active shooter situation.

Seminar attendees will receive a complimentary eBook copy of "Potential: Workplace Violence Prevention and Your Organizational Success" by Bill Whitmore, AlliedBarton's President and CEO.

Potential, www.potentialthebook.com, shows how a range of stakeholders -- from CEOs and other senior leaders to building management, human resources, contract security and law enforcement -- can work together to lower an organization's workplace violence risk and enhance its overall morale and performance.

Speakers and panel members include: Pam Paziotopoulos, Senior Vice President, Workplace & Intimate Partner Violence, Forest Advisors; Sgt Michael Gerard, Schaumburg Police Department; and Brent O'Bryan, SPHR, AlliedBarton Vice President of Learning & Development.

Media interested in attending this event are encouraged to RSVP to the press contact in this release.
