Keller Rohrback L.L.P. Investigates New England Compounding Center Regarding Steroid-Related Meningitis Outbreak

SEATTLE, Oct. 8, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Attorney Advertising Material. Keller Rohrback announces that it is investigating the recent outbreak of fungal meningitis that is linked to contaminated steroid medications. The steroid medication, methylprednisolone acetate, that is linked to the contamination is manufactured by New England Compounding Center. The epidural steroid injections are administered to individuals suffering from back pain via an injection in and around the spinal cord.  The Company has issued a recall of all its products "compounded and distributed" from its Framingham, Massachusetts facility.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ("CDC") has confirmed that there are over 90 cases of fungal meningitis in seven states and that the seven deaths reported so far are consistent with fungal infection. The affected patients started experiencing meningitis symptoms: worsening headaches, fever, stiff neck, slurred speech, etc., one to four weeks after they received the steroid injection. Fungal Meningitis is an infection that results from a fungus that has spread through blood to the spinal cord.
