Spirit Halloween: Major Costume Retailer to Host 2nd Annual Halloween Party for Sick Children

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 21, 2012) - One of North America's largest costume retailers is bringing the fun of Halloween to children who will not be able to go trick-or-treating this Halloween.

On October 24^th, Spirit Halloween Superstores will once again be donating costumes, makeup artists and other goodies for the 2^nd annual Halloween party at the Rotary/Flames House (Alberta Children's Hospital).

On October 11^th, a sister event was held at the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton. Spirit Halloween staff set up tables full of Halloween costumes and accessories for the sick children and their families to choose from; as well as having face painting stations, games tables, and goody bags on hand. The visit also included special guests the "Power Rangers" who were able to pose with the children at the event and to deliver costumes and goodies to children who were too sick to leave their rooms.

"We feel that we have a responsibility to bring Halloween to those who can't experience it, said Momen Al-subaihee, owner of Spirit of Halloween Superstores in Alberta. "And to at least try to make life a little better for some of these young people who are in the hospital."

Albertans can also help keep the spirit of Halloween alive through their donations to the "Spirit of Children" program. During the 2012 Halloween shopping season, Spirit Halloween stores are collecting donations for the "Spirit of Children" program from customers at the eleven stores throughout Alberta. 100 per cent of proceeds collected will, once again, go to both the Alberta and Stollery Children's Hospitals here in Alberta.

Earlier this year owner, Momen Al-subaihee, presented the hospitals with over $50,000 dollars in donations collected during the 2011 Halloween season. "This year we hope to beat that number by at least thirty percent" comments Al-subaihee.

The Spirit of Children program brings Halloween celebrations to young patients at Halloween, and funding to local hospitals all year long. The program has more than 120 hospital partners throughout Canada and the United States. Local donations stay local, and every dollar donated goes directly to the hospitals. Spirit Halloween stores have contributed more than $7 million in cash and merchandise donations since the program started in 2007.
