Roanoke Plastic Surgeon Provides Tips for Choosing Breast Augmentation Surgeon

Dr. Enrique Silberblatt Outlines the Ideal Qualifications Patients Should Seek Out in a Surgeon and Surgical Facility for Their Breast Augmentation Procedure

ROANOKE, VA--(Marketwire - Mar 28, 2013) - Dr. Enrique Silberblatt, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Virginia, knows that patients expect their breast augmentation surgeons to be well-trained, experienced, and artistic. Additionally, Dr. Silberblatt believes that one of the most important factors in choosing a plastic surgeon for breast augmentation is the patient's rapport with the surgeon.

The Roanoke plastic surgeon says some surgeons make the patient feel instantly comfortable during the initial consultation, while other surgeons come across as distant or rigid. He adds that while some surgeons listen to their patients' concerns and answer their questions, other surgeons simply recite a well-rehearsed list of bullet points about breast augmentation without taking into account the individuality of their patients. According to Dr. Silberblatt, a patient should feel as if their surgeon is taking a personal interest in their unique case and paying attention to their individual concerns.

In addition, Dr. Silberblatt recommends patients considering a breast augmentation procedure consult with friends and family members about their experiences with local practitioners. He says some of his patients have even asked their general care nurses or physicians for recommendations on plastic surgeons before making a decision.

For Dr. Silberblatt, absence of board-certification is a deal breaker. If the plastic surgeon under consideration is not certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), he recommends patients continue their search. According to him, ABPS is the only recognized board that not only certifies, but actually prepares its members to perform breast augmentation.

Dr. Silberblatt also says patients should also ask where their surgery will be performed, as the credentials of the facility can be just as important as the surgeon. He recommends patients seek out operating rooms certified by one of three agencies:

  • JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations)
  • AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care)
  • AAAASF (American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities)

According to the Roanoke plastic surgeon, these organizations have rigorous safety requirements. He notes that plastic surgeons that belong to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) are required to sign an attestation that their major surgeries are performed at certified facilities.

Ultimately, Dr. Silberblatt highlights that understanding the background and training of a potential surgeon is necessary to make an educated decision. He says his goal is to help ensure Virginia plastic surgery patients feel confident going into their breast augmentation procedure, have all of their questions answered, and feel good about their choice of plastic surgeon.
