Chandler Resident Claims Arizona's 26th $1 Million Powerball(R) Second Prize Winning Ticket

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - Jul 26, 2013) - The Arizona Lottery announces that the winner of the $1 million Powerball second prize from the drawing on July 20 has come forward. This is the 26th $1 million Powerball second prize winning ticket sold in Arizona.

Barbara Buss, a retired Chandler resident, stopped at the Circle K located at 1995 W. Chandler Blvd. to buy a Big Gulp and two Powerball tickets. Buss checked her ticket the morning of July 25 and, to her amazement, found five matching numbers. Thinking she won $100,000, she showed the ticket to her husband who suggested they immediately drive to the Arizona Lottery office to check the ticket.

Buss said she and her husband were shocked to discover they were Arizona's latest $1 million winners. After trying several times, she finally was able to reach her daughter to share the good news. Her daughter's initial response was, "I'm so glad that I'm an only child."

Buss said that she made a list a few years ago of things she would like to do if she ever won the Lottery. She plans to take a vacation, remodel their kitchen and hopefully finish restoring the 1950 Ford convertible that was supposed to be her birthday gift 15 years ago. The couple also plans to donate a portion of the winnings to charities of their choice and meet with their financial advisor regarding how to invest the rest.

"We are thrilled that yet another Arizona player has won a $1 million Powerball second prize," said Karen Bach, director of budget, products and communications for the Arizona Lottery. "We are excited that the number of new millionaires statewide is continuing to grow and we expect that trend to continue."

The increase in Powerball sales and wins in Arizona means more money being returned to important state programs. Arizona Lottery dollars are allocated to fund a wide variety of public projects and programs throughout Arizona that fall under four main pillars: education, health & public welfare, economic & business development and the environment.

The next Powerball draw is Saturday, July 27 for an estimated $196 million jackpot. Tickets can be purchased at any Arizona Lottery retailer.

Players must be 21 years or older to purchase or redeem tickets. Winners have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize at an Arizona Lottery office or by mail. Overall odds vary by game. All sales are final. In accordance with the ADA, these materials may be made available in an alternative format. Gambling Problem? Call 1.800.NEXT STEP (1-800-639-8783). Please Play Responsibly™.
