Award-winning encaustic painter David Brown's mission is to raise the profile of talented Canadian artists worldwide. This quest will take an important step forward next week as he and four Canadian artists will debut under the 5 Star Collective banner - to make waves at the ninth annual Fountain Art Fair in New York City. The event runs from March 7 - 9, 2014, featuring more than 80 galleries, artist collectives and attracting an eclectic group of artists from eight countries around the world, including Canada.

"We are incredibly excited to showcase our Canadian talent at Fountain 2014 to ensure our artistic voices are heard and our work receives exposure at this global venue," says Brown. This unique annual event is catching the art world by storm attracting nearly 10,000 visitors last year, an impressive 20 per cent jump from 2012. In addition to artist booths and performing artists, this year's Manhattan event will offer provocative panel discussions to connect artists, collectors, critics and art lovers, making great art far more accessible.

ABOUT DAVID BROWN

David's abstract compositions have won several awards and have appeared in numerous galleries and museums throughout Canada and the United States. His paintings are held in private and corporate collections, across North America, Europe, and Asia.

David works in successive layers of applied, scraped-off and covered-over wax in a potentially endless process of revision and discovery. Urban culture is a dominant theme defined in his narrative pieces with a hint of childish whimsy peeking through the layers. His work explores the limits of the encaustic medium while balancing non-representational image and abstract space. David's lyrical and constructivist approach contrasts delicate line-work and hard-edge geometric forms against graceful, gestural brushwork. David's colour palette places cheery pastels over cool greys, warm earth tones and lamp blacks to establish a hierarchical relationship between fore and aft.

David is a recognized leader in Toronto's creative community, he is both the founder of the 5 Star Collective and the founder and managing director of Toronto's SpeakEasy artist events that has been bringing established and emerging Toronto artists together monthly since 1996.
