Renovations include the following:

• Every guest room received new carpet, paint, wall coverings, draperies, sconces, bedding and some new furniture.
• VIP suites took the guest-room renovation to new levels with all of the above plus all new furniture and wall fixtures.
• The 11,500 square feet of ballroom space now wear new, tartan-inspired carpeting. New chairs and furnishings complement the refreshed rugs.
• Three of the four restaurants - JT's, Brock's and The Clubhouse Restaurant -- now boast fresh carpet, paint and furnishings. JT's enjoyed special attention with structural changes that siphoned off the restaurant from the lobby and expanded its outdoor space. A new dance floor, woodwork and 11 large, flat-screen televisions now adorn the tavern.
• Even the hallways got in on the action with new carpet, paint and wall coverings.

Other changes had more to do with the palate than the palette. Each of the refreshed restaurants now offers updated menus that are on par with the resort's position as the best among Birmingham luxury hotels. JT's, for example, has overhauled its menu of Scottish comfort food to include choices like Irish nachos and try-before-you-die dumplings. These selections are complemented by a carefully culled cigar selection and an impressive range of libations that include locally crafted beers, single malt scotch and the signature Martini 1863 whose Scottish roots go back even further than the resort's.
