LaGuardia Airport Hotel in New York Cultivates Young Artists in Local School

CORONA, NY--(Marketwired - Jun 10, 2014) - The SpringHill Suites New York LaGuardia Airport is creating its own version of Masterpiece Theatre. Where some hotels might capitalize on Manhattan's buzzing art scene to create an on-property gallery event, this hotel in Queens, New York decided to merge fine arts with philanthropy. The result was an event that was as enlightening as it was gratifying -- and created its very own buzz in the process.

On May 6, 2014, the stylish, all-suite hotel hosted its first Art Night in conjunction with PS 330Q, a new elementary school located nearby. The Queens, New York hotel provided complimentary bites and beverages, while children from the school, their parents and teachers and even hotel guests arrived to view the student-created artworks on display.

As everyone examined the colorful renditions of portraits, landscapes and (post-modern) abstracts, students seized the moment to shine, and the hotel further cemented its relationship with the community. This wasn't, after all, the property's first philanthropic endeavor to benefit the school: Earlier in the year, the hotel facilitated a fundraiser to benefit PS 330Q called "Save Art", and the response was heartwarming. Guests, many of whom stay at the LaGuardia Airport hotel in New York on a long-term basis and therefore feel connected to the neighborhood, were proud to contribute, and the hotel used their donations to purchase art supplies for the students. The fruit of that campaign was now visible to everyone.

PS 330Q opened in 2010 with just 220 kindergarten students and has since grown to accommodate 370 students in grades kindergarten through third at a new campus in Corona. The school moved to a brand new building in September 2013 to facilitate the growth.
