MSABC Congratulates Thompson Creek Metals Company on Opening of Mt. Milligan

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Oct. 8, 2013) - The Mining Suppliers Association of British Columbia (MSABC) congratulates Thompson Creek Metals Company on the official opening of the Mt. Milligan mine. The Dedication Ceremony was held today at the mine site. "The opening of Mt. Milligan is wonderful news, not only for the communities of Mackenzie and Fort St. James, but for all British Columbians," said Ken Roberts, Chair of MSABC. "In addition to direct jobs, taxes and royalties, Mt. Milligan has created new sales opportunities for many of the 922 B.C. companies that provide supplies and services to mining operations, in every region of the province," said Roberts.

Thompson Creek Metals Company has created more than 400 permanent jobs at Mt. Milligan and is supporting many more indirect jobs across the province. "We know that for every direct job created at a B.C. mine a minimum of 2 indirect jobs are supported at businesses providing mining supplies and services," said Roberts. "Mt. Milligan will support up to 800 indirect jobs for a mine-life of approximately 22 years," added Roberts. According to the 2012 Mt. Milligan Sustainability & Social Responsibility Report, in 2012 alone Thompson Creek Metals Company worked with over 200 local companies on the Mt. Milligan project and generated regional spending of $125 million.

The Mining Suppliers Association of B.C. comprises suppliers, contractors and consultants to the B.C. mining industry who are committed to promoting the sustainability of this valuable resource sector.
