The Blackmagic Design URSA 4K cinema camera is available at B&H Photo in two versions: one with an EF Mount for Canon EF lenses, and one with a PL Mount. It features a Super-35-sized, global shutter CMOS sensor with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 and 12 stops of dynamic range. With this sensor, it can output 16:9 UHD 4K video. On top of this, the lens mount and sensor assembly is interchangeable, so it can be upgraded down the road, helping to make the URSA a genuinely future-proofed camera system.
The Blackmagic URSA records to CFast 2.0 memory cards, the high-speed successor to Compact Flash. It can record in either 12-bit CinemaDNG RAW or Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), and can also record in 1080p for non-4K productions. In addition, a 12G-SDI output makes it possible to connect external recording devices or monitors. Through the SDI, the camera outputs 4:2:2 10-bit video at up to 60 frames per second. Two card slots allow the operator or camera assistant to hot-swap media for uninterrupted continuous recording.
For monitoring, the Blackmagic URSA features a very large, 10.1" flip-out LCD screen with 1080p resolution that all but does away with the need for an on-camera field monitor. Additionally, there are two 5" capacitive touchscreens on either side of the body, so the menu is accessible, regardless of how the camera is placed.
