ENTSO-E President Nick Winser to Address Grid Reliability and Resiliency at DNV GL's Utility of the Future Leadership Forum

Executive Director of National Grid Joins Panel of Executive Experts to Identify How Utilities, Regulators, and Customers Should Prepare for the Grid Challenges Ahead

BURLINGTON, MA--(Marketwired - Apr 22, 2014) -  Nick Winser, president of ENTSO-E and Executive Director at National Grid, will join fellow industry thought leaders to share and discuss views on grid reliability and resiliency at DNV GL's (formerly DNV KEMA) Utility of the Future Leadership Forum, June 2-4, 2014, at The Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington D.C. The panel will address the visualization of a 21st century grid, including the impact of renewable integration and distributed energy resources (encompassing solar, wind, energy storage, and microgrids).

Participants at the forum will explore issues affecting the energy industry from policy to use, including evolving needs of consumers, the rise of renewables, reliability and security, and increasingly complex regulatory requirements. As with years past, the forum will draw leaders from across the energy spectrum who offer innovative ideas and strategies for a sustainable and profitable energy future. A detailed forum agenda and registration information are available at www.dnvgl.com/UofF2014.

"Grid reliability and resiliency are key factors in the proposals that ENTSO-E develops to ensure lasting security of electric supply," said Nick Winser, president, ENTSO-E. "The collaborative discussion of best practices surrounding these topics is vital to our success and I am pleased to join forces with the other executive panelists at this year's forum."

Winser is joined by Nicholas Abi-Samra, Executive Consultant, DNV GL; Terry Boston, CEO, PJM Interconnection; Gerry Cauley, president and CEO, NERC; Gordon van Welie, president and CEO, ISO New England, and Stephen Whitley, president and CEO, New York ISO. Hugo van Nispen, Executive Vice President, Energy Advisory at DNV GL added, "The dynamics of our energy future are increasingly connected across the globe -- more than ever before. Establishing an investment framework and taking the necessary steps to ensure resilience and reliability are critical activities toward securing that future. As the host of DNV GL's Utility of the Future Leadership Forum, I'm excited to have Nick share the pan-European challenge and explore solutions that are relevant to all participants -- no matter how or where you connect to the grid."

ENTSO-E is the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, representing 41 Transmission System Operators (TSOs) from 34 countries. TSOs are responsible for the bulk transmission of electric power on the main high voltage electric networks, one of the most important infrastructure backbones of Europe's service and industrial economy. ENTSO-E's legal basis is Regulation (EC) 714/2009 on electricity cross-border exchanges, mandating it to draft network codes and non-binding community-wide ten-year network development plans; and to ensure the optimal management, coordinated operation and sound technical evolution of the European electricity transmission network.
