Statement by Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the CRTC Report on Television Choice

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 24, 2014) -

Our Government believes Canadian families should be able to choose the combination of television channels they want. In the Speech from the Throne, as a key commitment to protecting Canadian consumers, our Government said we would require TV channels to be unbundled, while protecting Canadian jobs.

With that in mind, on November 7, 2013, the Governor in Council asked the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to report on how to maximize such choices and the steps the Commission intends to take in that regard.

The CRTC report sets out a roadmap to greater channel choice, which is consistent with our commitment to provide Canadian families with the flexibility and choice they want. I want to thank the CRTC for the work they have done in this area and look forward to the next steps they will take to implement their proposed approach.
