National Chengchi University 87th Anniversary -- Novum Aevum Fidel Firmae


TAIPEI, TAIWAN--(Marketwired - May 21, 2014) - National Chengchi University celebrated her 87th anniversary since establishment in China, and 60th anniversary after resumed in Taiwan on May 20, 2014. The number -- 60 (Jia Zi) has a special meaning that signifies a full cycle of Chinese calendar. Therefore the main theme of this year's celebration was "Novum Aevum Fidel Firmae." In celebration of the diamond Jubilee of National Chengchi University, NCCU entered a new era with firm fidelity

At the same time, National Chengchi University also celebrated her 50th anniversary of academic cooperation with Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) of Korea. The first cooperation was signed in 1964 between SKKU and NCCU when the vision of international mobility was not widely understood and thought of among universities. This cooperation agreement has been leading the two universities to collaborate in faculty and students exchange for decades. It has also become a tradition that the President of each university to award Honorary Doctorates to the other university. During the celebration period, a dedicated archive exhibition displayed the history of academic cooperation between these two universities. President Dr. Jun Young Kim (SKKU) and President Dr. Se-Hwa Wu (NCCU) held a grand opening of the exhibition on May 16, 2014. Those precious historical documents and manual scripts were displayed at the main library lobby for everyone to walk through the path of SKKU and NCCU cooperation.

Moreover, Office of International Cooperation (OIC) of NCCU held an International Forum to share the ideas of international cooperation on higher education among partner universities. There were over 40 delegates from 12 countries attending the forum. The themes of the forum included international cooperation strategies, international education program, and building international universities. Through the discussion of these issues, NCCU would be able to learn and explore various opportunities to achieve a more engaged and proactive relation with her partners.

As tradition, NCCU had a world culture and food festival for 3 days to show the uniqueness of NCCU's internationalization. Local and international students from 4 continents were wearing traditional costumes to represent their countries and preparing special dishes for everyone to taste. At the same time, belly dance, Korean dance, aboriginal dance, fashion show, etc. from student clubs were performing on stage to demonstrate the energetic and dynamic passion of NCCU.
