National Open Government Talks Touch Down in Toronto

Canada Updating its Action Plan on Open Government

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 24, 2014) - Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat

Today, consultations on Canada's second Action Plan on Open Government continued in Toronto with a public roundtable and an expert panel. Treasury Board President Tony Clement launched the consultations in May to hear directly from Canadians about their ideas for increased openness and transparency in the federal government.

The Toronto event is part of a nation-wide series being held by the Government of Canada. Included in the expert panel were representatives from the City of Toronto, the Province of Ontario, and Open Government enthusiasts, while the public afternoon roundtable was open to all Canadians.

Canada's second Action Plan on Open Government will build on the successes of the first Action Plan, such as the Open Government Licence, the Open Government Portal (data.gc.ca) with almost 200,000 datasets, and events like the CODE appathon, which encourage innovation and economic activity that can benefit Canadians. Ongoing consultations both on-line and in-person are designed to produce an Action Plan that will provide citizens with better data and information, and more opportunities to learn about and participate in government.
