Antigonight Art After Dark Festival Receives Support

ANTIGONISH, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Aug. 30, 2014) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Government of Canada has provided the Antigonish Culture Alive Association with $20,000 in funding under the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program to present the Antigonight Art After Dark Festival.

The Honourable Peter Mackay, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Member of Parliament (Central Nova), made this announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Antigonight will celebrate its fifth Art After Dark Festival on September 26 and 27 with music and dance performances, painting and sculpture exhibits, and workshops in visual art, storytelling and theatre. The work of about 95 local artists, artisans and heritage presenters will be showcased. During the festival, Antigonish will come alive with interactive and performance art on sidewalks and in storefronts, alleyways and nooks and crannies of the downtown.

• The Antigonight: Art After Dark Festival was founded by Tila Kellman, curator, and Fenn Martin, ceramicist, in 2010. Inspired by Nuit Blanche in Toronto and Nocturne in Halifax, the event provides a venue for artists of many disciplines to share and create along with festival participants.
• Every year, different artists are invited and selected to present projects that encourage community participation.
• A highlight of the festival will be a collaborative art making project where works of art unfold over the course of the night.
• Upwards of 125 volunteers are expected to contribute to Antigonight, and attendance is anticipated to be approximately 3,000.
