These new lenses all feature image stabilization and are a welcome addition to Canon's extensive lineup.
Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM Lens
The first new lens from Canon is a 400mm dust- and water-resistant super telephoto lens featuring a lightweight design that is ideal for sports and wildlife photography. It is an upgrade to the existing 400mm f/4 DO lens, adding newly developed gapless dual-layer diffractive elements to reduce flare while providing enhanced clarity. An Optical Image Stabilizer reduces the appearance of camera shake by up to four stops, and has three distinct modes -- standard, panning, and during exposure only -- to benefit different methods of shooting. AF stop buttons and full-time manual focus override complement seamless handling, and a Power Focus mode enables smooth focus shifts while shooting video. The optical design features one large-diameter aspherical element and one UD element, as well as optimized coatings for improved contrast, color accuracy, and clarity while minimizing ghosting and flare. Fluorine coatings on the front and rear lens surfaces further help to reduce smears and fingerprints. Additionally, a circular nine-blade aperture provides pleasing out-of focus areas. Included with the lens are a hood, case, and strap for the case, dust cap, lens strap, and a drop-in gelatin filter holder.
EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
The next lens is the Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM. It is a standard zoom for EOS DSLRs, and is the first EF-mount lens for full-frame-sensor cameras to include a lead screw-type stepping motor (STM). The focusing mechanism supports Canon's Movie Servo AF mode to provide smooth, near-silent continuous AF while shooting both stills and video, and a high-speed CPU delivers quick performance. It features a seven-group optical zoom system and an Optical Image Stabilizer that reduces the appearance of camera shake. The lens has one UD element and two aspherical elements, as well as enhanced lens coatings for improved contrast and clarity. Additionally, a circular seven-blade diaphragm helps to produce a pleasing out-of focus quality for selective-focus applications. The optional, dedicated EW-83M Lens Hood is also available. EF-S 24mm f/2.8 IS STM Lens
Lastly, Canon has also announced the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 IS STM, a wide-angle, 38mm equivalent lens for APS-C-sized EOS cameras. It features an Optical Image Stabilizer along with a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture and, as of the release date, it is Canon's slimmest and lightest EF-S lens. Like the 24-105mm, the 24mm has an STM mechanism for smooth, near-silent AF during video and still shooting. The lens's construction includes one aspherical element to help minimize aberrations and distortions, and coated elements also work to reduce lens flare and ghosting. Full-time manual focus is possible with the lens, and it has a minimum focusing distance of 6".
