Breaking Down Silos: A New Approach to Working Together for the Anglo Community of Quebec

LAVAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - Oct. 20, 2014) - Leaders from English-speaking communities across Quebec are coming together on October 21^st and 22^nd to explore a new way of working together in the face of growing needs and limited resources. The "Collective Impact Conference" will include just over 165 participants from 38 organizations representing education, health, not-for-profit, economic development, business, and youth service sectors, as well as both municipal and provincial governments.

"We know that the challenges the English-speaking community faces cannot be tackled effectively in silos. Things like poverty, health and education are all deeply connected. This conference will be an opportunity to take a closer look at how we can work together for the best possible future," explains organizer Paule Langevin, Director of the Community Learning Centre Initiative.

About the Collective Impact Conference

The Collective Impact Conference will take place at the Sheraton Montreal Airport Hotel in Dorval, Quebec from 8:30AM to 4:00PM on October 21^st and from 8:30AM to 12:15PM on October 22nd. The conference will be facilitated by Tamarack, an Institute for Community Engagement based in Waterloo, Ontario. Over the course of the day, participants will have an opportunity to learn more about what they can do to help support a coordinated large-scale change effort. More specifically, participants will learn about setting a common agenda, establishing shared measurement systems and mutually reinforcing activities and how to support continuous communication.

About the Community Learning Centre Initiative

In the province of Quebec, English-language minority communities do not always have equitable access to education, health and social services. Located in 37 English schools across Quebec, Community Learning Centres (CLCs) help to meet existing needs by facilitating access to a broad range of services and activities intended for students, their families and the wider community. CLCs establish services and activities by building partnerships between English schools and their community (citizens, community-based organizations and businesses) to respond to local needs. The CLC Initiative is a part of LEARN, an educational foundation whose mission it is to serve the English Educational Community of Quebec.
