Canon Announces the EOS C100 Mark II Cinema Camera With Dual Pixel CMOS

The Canon EOS C100 Mark II Cinema EOS Camera With Dual Pixel CMOS AF Is Canon's Updated Version of the C100 Designed for Event Videographers, Documentarians, and Independent Filmmakers

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - October 21, 2014) - B&H Photo would like to share the announcement of Canon's new EOS C100 Mark II, the successor to the popular C100 cinema camera. This new camera allows you to record 1080p resolution video at up to 60/50 fps -- a boost from the 30 fps maximum in the original model. Like the C100, the Mark II uses a Super-35mm-sized CMOS sensor, with an EF lens mount compatible with the full range of Canon EF, EF-S, and EF-mount cinema lenses. It also comes standard with Canon's Dual Pixel AF technology and supports Face detection AF when using Canon STM lenses. Other significant updates include Canon Log display LUT support on the HDMI output, built-in Wi-Fi, and improved viewfinder and display panel. The Canon EOS C100 Mark II offers recording in either AVCHD or MP4 formats, with a maximum bit rate of 28 Mbps in AVCHD and 35 Mbps in MP4. Both recording modes support 1920x1080 recording at 23.98p, 25p, 29.97p, 50i, 50p, and 59.94p, with the MP4 mode adding 720p and low-resolution 640 x 360 recording at 23.98p, 25p, and 29.97p. The new MP4 mode also offers fast- and slow-motion recording, with speeds ranging from 40% slow motion to 250% fast motion. Like the original model, the camera has dual SD card slots that support relay recording of long takes over multiple cards, or simultaneous recording to two cards for data redundancy and instant backup. For professional applications, you can record clean, uncompressed 4:2:2 video with embedded timecode via the HDMI output to compatible external recorders.

The ergonomics of the camera are similar to that of the C100, with a built-in handle unit for comfortable handheld shooting and a removable top handle with XLR audio inputs with manual adjustments. The Mark II does see some physical changes, with the built-in microphone now incorporated into the body of the camera rather than on the top handle, letting the operator record audio without the top handle attached. Images can be monitored using the rear 3.5" display or the viewfinder. The original LCD screen found on the C100 has been replaced with a 1.23MP equivalent OLED, with a side-hinged design that lets operators or camera assistants monitor images from the side of the camera. The EVF size has been increased from 0.24 to 0.45" and is now tiltable for shooting in a variety of positions. Another new feature that shooters will appreciate is Canon Log LUT support on the HDMI output. This enables users to judge exposure, colors, and contrast of Canon Log footage more accurately when using external HDMI monitors that lack Canon Log display. Other professional features inherited from the C100 include built-in ND filters, waveform displays, zebra pattern, and focus assist functions such as peaking and magnify. The C100 Mark II also offers built-in 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi support, and is compatible with Canon's GP-E2 GPS receiver for recording location data and RC-V100 remote controller.
