National Prosecution Awards for Top Prosecutors


CHARLOTTETOWN, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND--(Marketwired - Oct. 23, 2014) - The Federal/Provincial/Territorial Heads of Prosecutions Committee has recognized the outstanding accomplishments of two prosecutors, who were honoured at an awards ceremony held last night. The award program, instituted in 2006, honours professional excellence, exemplary service, and outstanding achievements.

The awards were presented by the Honorable H. Frank Lewis, O.P.E.I., Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island, and the Honorable Janice Sherry, Attorney General and Minister of Environment, Labour and Justice.

Mr. Pierre Lapointe, Chief Prosecutor, Bureau du Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales du Québec (DPCP), and Mr. Joshua B. Hawkes, Q.C., Appellate counsel with the Appeals, Education and Prosecution Policy Branch of the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service, were both awarded the Commitment to Justice Award 2014.

The Commitment to Justice Award recognizes a high level of commitment and dedication to the ideals of justice or, leadership in inspiring excellence, professionalism and ethical behavior or, a significant contribution to improving the effectiveness of the criminal justice system.

The FPT Heads of Prosecutions Committee brings together the leaders of Canada's prosecution services to promote assistance and cooperation on operational issues relating to criminal prosecutions. The Committee also provides the prosecution perspective to Federal/Provincial/Territorial Ministers and Deputy Ministers Responsible for Justice.
