Island Savings Grants One Boy's Hockey Wish-With a Twist

DUNCAN, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Nov. 20, 2014) - Sometimes wishes really do come true.

That's what one Island family learned earlier this month when, after receiving a wish from big brother Bryce, Island Savings surprised little brother Carson and Bryce's entire hockey team with new sticks from Eddy's Hockey Shop at a Saturday morning practice in Duncan's Island Savings Centre. This one wish then became bigger than the family expected and Island Savings caught the whole thing on film at Facebook.com/IslandSavings.

"Creating remarkable experiences both big and small has long been a part of our values," says Rod Dewar, President and CEO of Island Savings. "That we were able to turn a wish for a hockey stick into a gift that benefitted the whole team and Carson's family is just one example of Island Savings' commitment to make a real difference in the financial lives of our members and communities every day."

Islanders have been dropping their greatest wish for somebody else into Island Savings' pop-up Wishing Wells and branch-based ballot boxes for the past month. Every wish made counts as a ballot into a draw for one of six $500 term deposits that will be awarded in late December.

"The draw itself is meant to raise awareness about the importance of saving today for a wish tomorrow," adds Dewar. "And, in the spirit of making sure this ripple starts a wave, Island Savings will be donating a dollar to Vancouver Island's Help Fill a Dream foundation every time the Wishing Well video is shared from our Facebook page, with a goal of 10,000 shares."

"Fulfilling the dreams of Island children is a value and mandate we share with Island Savings," says Craig Smith, Executive Director with Help Fill a Dream. "This donation will ensure that even more Island children with life-threatening illnesses will have their dreams come true and their hope inspired."
