Kevin O'Connell Wins 2014 Toyota Southwest Superlates Winter Classic

NEWPORT BEACH, CA--(Marketwired - Dec 15, 2014) - O'Connell Racing, a leading professional motorsports company, announced today that team road course driver Kevin O'Connell won the 3^rd Annual Toyota Southwest Superlates (SWS) Winter Classic held over the weekend at Willow Springs International Raceway in Southern California in the track's original two and half mile 1953 configuration. 

Driver Kevin O'Connell commented, "What a great end to our 2014 racing season here on the west coast. We won the right event at the right time in SWS. The team dedicates this win to Todd Southwell, my crew chief and former SWS driver. His call on race strategy for the first half of the race and the 5 lap sprint after the invert, and all of the prior efforts to get us in position throughout the season to win was the difference today." 

The 2014 Winter Classic race completed a full season of high speed stock car road course racing for the SWS series and was a preview of the racing set to take place in 2015 at Willow Springs. 

Series co-founder and series promoter Matt Jackson stated, "For the last 20 years the west coast drivers have dominated NASCAR's top levels with 12 of the last 19 Sprint Cup champions coming from the west. We intend for SWS to launch new champions to the national racing scene in the future and continue this trend."
