Almas Jiwani to Deliver Keynote Address on Women's Economic Empowerment at the Upcoming Toronto Women's Festival

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 27, 2015) - Almas Jiwani, President of UN Women National Committee Canada, will deliver the keynote address at the Toronto Women's Festival on March 1 2015 at the Ted Rogers School of Business Management at Ryerson University hosted by Project North 44.

Project North 44 is a volunteer women's group that was established to support immigrant women, with a specific focus on women from Turkey. In celebration of International Women's Day the Toronto Women's Festival will bring together speakers, entrepreneurs, artists and social organizations to highlight the importance of women's economic empowerment.

"As International Women's Day approaches it is fundamental that together we continue the dialogue on the importance of women's economic empowerment. Female empowerment and leadership contribute to a stronger, more sustainable global economy and yet internationally we still see policies that perpetuate gender-biased attitudes and practices. I am delighted that Project North 44 is hosting a festival to both celebrate and dissect why Canada, and the globe, must focus on the advantages and opportunities associated with economic empowerment. I look forward to sharing thoughts and perspectives with my peers at this event," said Almas Jiwani on the value and challenges to women's economic empowerment.

"We are honored and privileged to have Almas Jiwani deliver keynote address and look forward to her global perspective about how empowering women can result with empowering the humanity. UN Women has contributed for the awareness and advancement of women's empowerment and gender equality at the global level significantly," said Fulya Vekiloglu. "Almas Jiwani's both global and Canadian perspective will provide substantial background of the achievements at the national level and be a source of inspiration for greater empowerment opportunities and mobilization of women in Canada."

In addition to Almas Jiwani's key note address, the event will house two panels, addressing many aspects of women's economic empowerment and routes to success. Attendees can also expect a knowledge hub, an entrepreneurs circle, and an art exhibition. During the Festival, participants will have access to practitioners with expertise in financial planning, law and health.

The event is free of charge and is open to the public. The event will be held at the Ted Rogers School of Business Management, Ryerson University, 7th floor, 55 Dundas St W, Toronto on March 1, 2015 (12:00-5:00 pm).
