The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the reappointment of Marcel Brisebois as Chair of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board (CCPERB) for a term of three years, effective June 27, 2015.

  • Marcel Brisebois was first appointed Chair of the Review Board in June 2007.
  • Mr. Brisebois holds a Licentiate in Theology from the Université de Montréal and a Doctorate in Philosophy from La Sorbonne in Paris. He is a specialist in change and strategic management in cultural institutions.
  • From 1985 to 2004, Mr. Brisebois was Director General of the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal.
  • As a television and radio host with CBC/Radio-Canada for 29 years and a guest speaker on numerous occasions in Canada, France, the USA and South America, he has explored a wide range of topics, including culture, civilization, education, art, museology, music, governance and administration.
  • Mr. Brisebois has served on several boards, including the CCPERB from 1993 to 2003. He has received many awards and honours, including the Legion of Honour (1989), the Order of Canada (1990), the Ordre de la Pléiade (1995), the Ordre national du Québec (2003), and the Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Museums Association (2007).
  • The CCPERB is an independent administrative tribunal that reports to the Minister of Canadian Heritage. Under the Cultural Property Export and Import Act, it is responsible for certifying cultural property for income tax purposes; reviewing export permit applications that have been refused; and determining fair cash offers to purchase cultural property for refused export permits.
