Roost(R) Launches One of the First Integrations With Facebook(R)'s Parse IoT for Innovative Smart Home Platform

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 25, 2015) - Roost, an innovator in smart home technology, today announced at the F8 Facebook Developer Conference its pioneering integration with Parse IoT. Specifically, Roost has selected Parse, the leading cloud app platform, as its cloud infrastructure provider for the new Roost Smart Battery and its entire smart home platform.

The patent-pending Roost Smart Battery, and connected mobile app, uniquely combines a lithium battery and advanced Wi-Fi in a familiar 9V package. Coupled with an intuitive smartphone app, the Roost Smart Battery solution delivers notifications to your smartphone when your smoke alarm activates, even if you are not at home. In addition, the Roost Smart Battery eliminates those 3:00 a.m. low battery chirps from ever waking you up again. After five years when the battery needs to be replaced, you'll receive a notification "before the chirping starts." Parse for IoT, Parse's official new line of backend offerings for connected devices, will be a core element of the Roost smart home solution, including Roost's new mobile app and notification service. The Roost Smart Battery connects through a user's home Wi-Fi to the Parse cloud which acts as the central cloud system. Specific notifications are then sent to a user's smartphone at the appropriate time, delivering valuable information regarding their smoke alarm.

"Roost is pleased to have been selected to participate and demo at F8 as Parse expands its scope and becomes a core platform provider for the Internet of Things," said Roel Peeters, Roost CEO and co-founder. "A key promise of technology is that it makes your life easier and solves real problems. Utilizing the Parse Cloud, the Roost Smart Battery will give consumers and their families reliability and scalability, resulting in the peace-of-mind that their smoke alarms just got smarter, and their families safer."

Parse provides developers with scalable and powerful backend technology to launch full-featured apps with proven reliability. With Parse, developers can create elegant apps without having to manage server maintenance and install complex infrastructure. Developers can also instantly add push notifications, data storage, social integration, and more with the robust Parse SDKs.
Roost will be utilizing the complete suite of Parse product offerings, including Parse Core, Parse Push and Parse Analytics. Parse Core offers Roost the ability to run custom app code in the Parse Cloud, easily schedule recurring tasks and background jobs. It also provides a dashboard to view analytics, as well as schedule and send push notifications. Parse Push allows Roost to create, schedule and segment push notifications from its app. Finally, Parse Analytics enables Roost to track any data point in its app in real-time. This gives Roost the ability to measure app usage, optimize push campaigns and track custom analytics.

The new Roost Smart Battery features a unique design that accommodates a replaceable battery pack. This sleek two-piece design separates the custom battery from the electrical components and solidly snaps together into the familiar 9V form factor, maximizing the re-usability of valuable components. With this new format, consumers will be able to purchase a replacement battery pack from Roost for just a few dollars, extending the life of their Roost Smart Batteries. The Roost Smart Battery will begin shipping in late Q2 2015. The Roost Smart Battery will be available online and at retail for less than $35, depending on bundled pack size.
