Williams Scotsman Wins Awards of Distinction From the Modular Building Institute (MBI)

Company's Projects Recognized in the Relocatable Modular Education and Permanent Modular Building Categories

BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwired - Mar 26, 2015) -  The Modular Building Institute (MBI) recognized Williams Scotsman, an Algeco Scotsman company and leading provider of modular space and storage solutions in North America, with two honors at the annual MBI Awards of Distinction gala held last week in Las Vegas.

Williams Scotsman received an honorable mention for The Valor Academy School of Leadership in the relocatable modular education category, which recognizes exceptional temporary education facilities that are less than 10,000 square feet. The company's Dallas Zoo Office building was also one of three finalists for "Best in Show" in the permanent modular building category.

"The MBI awards celebrate innovation in temporary and permanent modular building design and we are delighted to be acknowledged for our efforts in the relocatable education and permanent modular categories," said Brad Soultz, president of Williams Scotsman. "I'd like to congratulate all the teams involved in these award-winning buildings."

The awards honor innovation and design excellence within the commercial modular space industry.

More on Williams Scotsman's Award Winning Projects
The Valor Academy School of Leadership,
which provides underserved students with a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, needed additional classrooms to support increased enrollment. Williams Scotsman provided 17 modular units to create eight new classrooms and a modular restroom facility. The classrooms were positioned to allow easy access to the pickup/drop off area for students while protecting them from the elements during inclement weather. The building aesthetics nicely complement existing school buildings on campus. The unique design allows the school to add additional classrooms as enrollment grows and remove them once their permanent school building is completed.

The Dallas Zoo is a popular tourist attraction that needed additional office and meeting space for its staff. The zoo hired Williams Scotsman to create a permanent modular building to complement the Zoo's other earth toned structures. An odd elevated site was used to allow for views over the Zoo's property. The building includes a large cedar wrap-around deck. For visual appeal, two modules were offset at the main entrance and special architectural flat awnings were utilized. Canopies were installed for shade, visual appearance, and to conceal rooftop air conditioners and vent stacks. The interior includes inspiring artwork and screen-printed dividers. LED lights were utilized in lieu of incandescent floodlights, inside and out. The attention to finishes make the Dallas Zoo Office building artful and visually compelling.

The Modular Building Institute is a non-profit trade association (www.modular.org) that represents the manufacturers, dealers, and suppliers of commercial factory-built structures, a multi-billion dollar industry annually. From classrooms to airport terminals, dormitories to weigh stations, emergency rooms to restaurants, MBI member companies manufacture, install, and service virtually every type of building application, for both temporary and permanent use. The commercial building awards, judged by an impartial panel of experts, were based on the following criteria: architectural excellence, technical innovation, cost effectiveness/energy efficiency, and calendar days to complete. Projects had to be intended as commercial structures, and all had to be of mobile or modular construction.
