Joan Lukey of Choate, Hall & Stewart Named an "Outstanding Woman Lawyer" by The National Law Journal


BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - May 4, 2015) - Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP today announced that Joan A. Lukey, Chair of the firm's Complex Trial & Appellate Litigation Group, has been named an "Outstanding Woman Lawyer" by The National Law Journal. The publication recognized "the most accomplished female attorneys working in the legal profession today" for their leadership, performance in significant cases, development of successful practices, and efforts to improve diversity in the profession, among other attributes. Lukey was selected from hundreds of nominations from across the country.

A preeminent trial lawyer, Lukey has tried complex business, products liability, professional liability, personal injury, First Amendment, and other cases in state and federal court in Massachusetts and around the country. She has tried over 100 jury trials, and numerous bench trials and arbitrations in all aspects of business disputes. She is also an accomplished appellate lawyer, having argued approximately 60 federal and state appeals.

As the Chair of Choate's Complex Trial & Appellate Litigation Group, Lukey and her team of 18 seasoned trial lawyers represent both plaintiffs and defendants in resolving their most challenging business disputes through litigation -- including trials, arbitrations, appeals, and settlements representation -- before federal and state trial and appellate courts and government agencies and in arbitrations.

Lukey is a past President of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and was the first woman ever to hold this position. She is also a past President of the Boston Bar Association, and has served twice as a Massachusetts Special Assistant Attorney General. Lukey has been named in The Best Lawyers in America for the past 20 years, a Massachusetts Super Lawyer for 10 years, one of "America's 50 Top Women Litigators" by The National Law Journal, and one of the "35 most influential judges and lawyers in Massachusetts over the past 35 years" by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly.

Lukey received her J.D., cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Boston College Law School, and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Smith College. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and before the U.S. Supreme Court; the U.S. Court of Appeals, First Circuit; the U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts; and the U.S. District Court, District of New Hampshire.
