Portland Business Leader Applauds Trade Promotion Authority Passage

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwired - July 01, 2015) - On the day the U.S. Senate passed Trade Promotion Authority legislation, more than 40 business leaders traveled to the White House from across the country to brief senior Administration officials on international trade policies.

The officials included U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman. Following the briefing at the White House, the business leaders met with members of Congress at a reception on Capitol Hill.

"The benefits of trade for American businesses of all sizes are too large to ignore, yet, too often, companies lack equal access to foreign markets and confront significant barriers to entry. President Obama's robust trade agenda aims to address these barriers and open more markets, which will spur economic growth, create jobs, and level the playing field for American businesses," Pritzker said.

"We at TESEDA, would like to extend our thanks to the members of the U.S. Congress and the Senate for passing the TPA bill. We are also grateful to the White House Business Council and Business Forward for giving us the opportunity to voice our concerns and listening to our suggestions in the recent White House briefing," said Armagan Akar, President and CEO of TESEDA Corporation in Portland, Oregon.

"As a small business providing unique solutions to the Semiconductor Industry around the world, we see tremendous value in the protection of intellectual property rights, the harmonization of trade standards, regulatory compatibility, and the increase in cross border investment flows the T-TIP and the TPP will bring as FTAs. We believe, these key agreements, not only will help us grow our business, but help companies like ours protect jobs in the United States through the standardization of intellectual property protection laws and practices," Akar said.
