Former Splunk Executive, Robert Lau, Joins Elastic to Drive Go to Market Across the Region

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA and AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS and HONG KONG, CHINA--(Marketwired - Jul 30, 2015) - Elastic, the company behind the popular open source projects Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana, today announces its expansion into Asia Pacific and Japan, with Hong Kong as its strategic headquarters. Robert Lau has also been appointed as the Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific and Japan to drive the company's growth and presence across the region and will be based in Hong Kong.

With more than 30 million downloads, Elastic's products have become the standard for search, analytics and logging services, for companies ranging from startups to large global enterprises like Cisco, eBay, Goldman Sachs, Groupon, Netflix and Yelp, which use Elastic's products both on-premise or in the cloud. The startup has employees across sales, engineering, marketing, services, training, and business development in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and Singapore.

In his role, Robert will be responsible for overseeing the company's continued growth and rapid expansion across Asia Pacific. Initial momentum in the region includes:

  • An enthusiastic customer, user and partner ecosystem including companies such as: Fujitsu, Haylix, Katana1, Lexer, Movideo, Rozetta Technology, SEEK Ltd, Selera, Sixtree, and Xero, among others.

Robert brings a wealth of international expertise to Elastic with 17 years of experience helping Silicon Valley companies establish their presence across the Asia Pacific region. Previously, Robert spent five years at ArcSight (IPO, acquired by HP) and five years at Portal Software (IPO, acquired by Oracle).

"As more companies -- both large enterprises and startups -- across Asia Pacific adopt open source software for their mission critical applications, Elastic is in an unique position to deliver incredible value for search, analytics and logging use cases," said Robert Lau, Elastic Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific and Japan. "I am incredibly excited to join the Elastic team and help grow its Asia Pacific ecosystem and community."

"The demand for Elastic's products and subscriptions across Asia Pacific and Japan have grown exponentially over the past 12 months," said Steven Schuurman, Elastic Founder and CEO.
