OTTAWA, ON--(Marketwired - July 31, 2015) - Worker representatives of the 2,500 SEIU Local 2 cleaners reached a tentative agreement with their employers late Thursday night. There will be no strike action next week.
The Ottawa Justice for Janitors Council, which consists of worker representatives employed by the companies at the negotiation table, unanimously endorsed the tentative agreement and is recommending members vote "yes" to ratify it next week.
Details of the tentative agreement are not being released publicly until the J4J Council has had a chance to present the deal to the rest of the membership.

Last Sunday, after weeks of negotiations and unhappy with the lack of progress, SEIU announced the majority of the city's private sector cleaners had overwhelmingly voted for a strike mandate.
Close to one third of cleaners in the City of Ottawa work in federally owned buildings -- the government contracts the cleaning work out to private companies. Currently, most cleaners earn as little as $11.50 per hour and have no medical benefits.
