Austin Pain Associates Seeks Patients With Complex Regional Pain Syndrome for Clinical Trial of Infusion Therapy Using Neridronic Acid

Treatment to Take Place Over 10 Days, With Periodic Follow-Ups Afterward

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - Aug 3, 2015) - Austin Pain Associates (APA), the leader in pain management in central Texas, is pleased to announce that it is participating in a clinical trial to study the efficacy of infusion therapy using neridronic acid to treat Type I complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). APA is currently seeking 10 CRPS patients to receive infusions by IV over a 10-day period, with periodic follow-up appointments afterward. The treatments will take from 30 minutes to up to four hours to complete. For more information or to apply, call (512)416-PAIN (7246) or visit www.AustinPain.com

CRPS, also known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), is a progressive disease of the sympathetic nervous system often seen after a traumatic injury or even surgery. Symptoms include progressive and increased pain out of proportion to the nature of the injury, edema and color changes to the site of the injury, and extreme sensitivity to touch and to temperature changes. CRPS may also result in bone loss or degeneration. Neridronic acid was developed from a class of drugs historically used to treat osteoporosis and is already being used to treat CRPS in Europe. The sponsor of the APA study is the Grünenthal Group, a research-oriented pharmaceutical company headquartered in Aachen, Germany.

"Administering neridronic acid through infusion therapy is a new and potentially exciting treatment for CRPS at a time when there have not been any significant new developments in the last several years," said John W. Wages, M.D. "Any patient diagnosed with CRPS is welcome to contact us to see if they might be a candidate for the study."

"We're honored that the Grünenthal Group selected us to study this treatment for CRPS," said Adnan A. Khan, M.D. "APA is committed to using the most effective treatments for our patients and assisting in the clinical trials of promising new alternatives."
