Death of an Inmate at Saskatchewan Penitentiary Minimum Security Unit


PRINCE ALBERT, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - Sept. 4, 2015) - Correctional Service Canada

On September 3, 2015, Arthur William Michel, an inmate from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary Minimum Security Unit was found unresponsive in his cell.

Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The offender was taken to the Victoria Union Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m.

At the time of his death, Mr. Michel, aged 53 years old, had been serving a sentence of 2 years, 6 months and 14 days, since December 3, 2014, for Sexual Assault and Fail To Comply with Undertaking/Recognizance.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the medical examiner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
