Dresner Advisory Services Publishes Internet of Things and Business Intelligence Market Study

Advocates Support Internet of Things in the Context of a Wide Range of Business Intelligence Activities and Processes

NASHUA, NH--(Marketwired - Sep 29, 2016) - Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2016 Internet of Things and Business Intelligence Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. Internet of Things (IoT) is defined as the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and connectivity to enable objects to collect and exchange data.

The 2nd annual report reviews interest and demand for business intelligence (BI) in an IoT world. It also examines key related technologies such as location intelligence, end user data preparation, cloud computing, advanced and predictive analytics, and big data analytics.

According to the study, IoT initiatives are primarily a large-organization phenomenon. Mature business intelligence programs are stronger advocates of IoT, experience greater BI success, and more strongly promote and expand business intelligence. IoT advocates have a strikingly high interest in big data analytics, and are three times as likely to consider big data as "critical" than the overall sample.

IoT advocates are 50% more likely to be current users of advanced and predictive analytics, and are more likely to be inclined toward using cloud business intelligence than the overall sample. In addition, end user data preparation is considered more relevant and important to IoT supporters.

"While a majority (53%) of users say IoT is at minimum 'somewhat important', most users still place IoT behind more pressing business intelligence and data management issues," said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. "This could be due to the IoT hype settling slightly, with organizations remaining interested but content to wait for beneficial use cases to emerge. We will continue to research and report on this market as it unfolds."

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. Users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the market. To purchase a copy of the 2016 Internet of Things and Business Intelligence Market Study, visit www.iotindustryreport.com
