Acrow Bridge Works with WSDOT on Emergency Project Replacing Overpass on Interstate 5

Temporary bridge put in place only 13 days after structure was damaged by a semi-trailer with an oversize load

PARSIPPANY, NJ--(Marketwired - Oct 18, 2016) -  Less than two weeks after an oversized load seriously damaged a heavily traveled overpass over Interstate 5 in Chehalis, WA, traffic was restored through the installation of a modular bridge supplied by Acrow Bridge, a leading international bridge engineering and supply company.

The 50-foot-long temporary bridge was ordered after an accident involving a southbound semi-trailer truck carrying two excavators. The oversize load seriously damaged all six girders supporting the bridge deck, according to Washington State Department of Transportation. WSDOT immediately ordered the span to be closed and taken down in one night, with a plan for expedited installation of Acrow's temporary bridge.

"It was critical to local business and residents to restore traffic flow for nearly 15,000 daily vehicles which traverse the Chamber Way overpass" said Jack Arizcuren, Acrow's Regional Sales Manager - Pacific States. "Acrow worked closely with WSDOT and Atkinson Construction work a viable solution, then safely execute installation, and opening of the roadway."

Added Bill Killeen, President and CEO of Acrow Bridge, "DOTs and contractors consistently turn to Acrow for quick turnarounds that minimize delay and facilitate on-time and ahead-of-time outcomes to complicated projects."

Acrow sold the materials used in the Chehalis project to WSDOT, which the state will keep it as an asset for future use. Acrow also supplied temporary bridging to WSDOT during the construction of a four-lane,160-foot-long replacement span on one side of the Skagit River Bridge on I-5 in Mount Vernon, WA in May 2013 after it was hit by a semi-trailer carrying an oversize load and collapsed.
