Serene Retreat Provides Patients and Families With Space to Reflect, Relax and Rejuvenate

WINCHESTER, VA--(Marketwired - October 20, 2016) - In a small town, neighbors matter. So when the local medical center sought to create a new space for cancer center treatment patients to recover, the Winchester community, including Trex Company (NYSE: TREX), rallied behind the effort. Last month, the Cancer Center at Winchester Medical Center officially opened to welcome patients, who will be able to relax, rest and rejuvenate in the center's spectacular new Healing Garden, anchored by a tranquil terrace built with Trex Transcend® decking.

Designed to bring moments of peace and serenity to patients and their families, the garden is outfitted with rocking chairs on a large, pergola-covered deck overlooking a pond. As the focal point of the new outdoor space, the garden also serves as the view for patients receiving treatments in the oncology room.

More than two miles of Trex Transcend decking in Spiced Rum, Havana Gold and Island Mist was used to create the one-of-a-kind space, which features an inlaid leaf pattern and a curved design that integrates into the surrounding garden. Additionally, Trex Transcend railing accents parts of the deck while the entire space is reinforced underneath by Trex Elevations® steel deck framing system, to ensure decades of safety, strength and support.

"As the first freestanding cancer center in Winchester, this project marks a major milestone for this community, which Trex has proudly called home more than 20 years," said Jim Cline, president and CEO of Trex. "We are honored to be such a prominent aspect of the garden's design, and are pleased that the use of high-performance, low-maintenance Trex decking will ensure years of beautiful respite for patients -- while allowing staff to focus on other priorities."

Unlike wood, high-performance Trex Transcend decking resists fading, staining, scratching and mold -- and won't rot, warp, crack or splinter. Upkeep is hassle-free with no sanding, staining or painting required, and food and drink spills wash off easily with just soap and water. The entire high-performance Trex decking portfolio is manufactured from more than 95 percent recycled content, including reclaimed wood and sawdust, as well as plastic from many common household items.
