MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - Oct. 21, 2016) - Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) is pleased to announce the new air services that will be available this coming winter out of Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.
Travellers will have the choice of a grand total of 116 destinations for the winter season, starting in November, a record for Montréal-Trudeau. Compared with last winter, this represents a 6% increase in the number of flights during a typical week, and an 8% rise in the number of seats.
The major new service will be the daily Montréal-Shanghai city-pair operated by Air Canada beginning February 16, 2017. Canada's national carrier will also continue its winter service to Lyon, Denver, Houston and Philadelphia, while WOW air and Tunisair will maintain flights to Reykjavik and Tunis, respectively, they launched this past summer.
Québec sun-seekers will be spoiled for choice, with 44 cities in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America accessible by direct flight out of Montréal. Air Canada will be offering San Juan for the first time, along with Puerto Vallarta and San José (Costa Rica). Air Transat will be serving Rouyn-Noranda and Bagotville for the first time in order provide connections to its many flights to Sun destinations.
Carriers will also be adding capacity to many international, domestic and transborder (U.S.) destinations. For example, Aeromexico will add four weekly flights to Mexico; Air China, one to Beijing; British Airways, one to Heathrow; Air Canada, seven to Newark, six to Los Angeles and one to Geneva; American Airlines, seven to Chicago; and Delta, three to Detroit.
Once again this year, ADM has seen strong passenger traffic growth. If the trend continues, the airport could see its total number of passengers exceed the 16-million mark for all of 2016, which would represent growth of more than 6% over 2015. And once again, this growth has been driven mainly by strong increases in international and domestic traffic.
