New Brunswick Crown Counsel and Prosecutors support their Quebec counterparts in their job actions against the provincial employer

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 26, 2016) - New Brunswick Crown Counsel and Prosecutors represented by the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada will actively participate in their Quebec colleagues' demonstration tomorrow against their employer, the provincial government.

"What the Quebec government is offering its Counsellors is no more acceptable for our colleagues than what our own provincial government is offering us", said Chris Titus, President of the New Brunswick Crown Prosecutors' Association, whose collective agreement expired on March 31, 2013. Negotiations have been stalled for months, with no breakthrough in sight.

"We're here today because our Quebec colleagues deserve better. They should be compensated fairly and recognized for their professionalism," added New Brunswick Crown Counsel President Philippe Thériault.

"These are the same issues that our Prosecutors are facing in New Brunswick. While engaging in job action is sometimes necessary to get your point across, binding arbitration is the best way to resolve the impasse on our main point of contention - compensation," concluded Titus.

The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada represents some 55,000 scientists and other professionals across Canada's public sector, including some 60 Crown Prosecutors and 45 Crown Counsel employed by the Government of New Brunswick.
