Winners of the First Global Redis Modules Hackathon announced by Redis Labs

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwired - Dec 7, 2016) - Today, Redis Labs, the home of Redis, announced the winners of the 2016 Global Redis Modules Hackathon bringing new Redis modules to the developer community.

The following winners were selected from a shortlist of 17 submissions:

• First Place global winner ($5,000 cash prize): "redis-cell" module, a rate limiter implemented in Rust, by Brandur Leach (https://github.com/brandur/redis-cell)
• Second Place global winner ($2,000 cash prize): "RedisModuleTimeSeries" module that implements a data type for timeseries aggregation, by Noam Sagi (https://github.com/saginoam/RedisModuleTimeSeries)
• Third Place global winner ($1,000 cash prize): "Redis graph" module is a graph database, by Roi Lipman (https://github.com/swilly22/redis-module-graph)
• San Francisco regional winner ($1,000 cash prize): "Redis Zstandard Compressed Values Module," by Nick Chadwick (https://github.com/chadnickbok/redis-zstd-module)
• Tel Aviv regional winner ($1,000 cash prize): "Pyrecks" module allows running Python kernels in Redis, by Doron Sadeh (https://github.com/doronsadeh/pyrecks)

A total of $10,000 in cash prizes were awarded to the above winners. "Reji" module, a JSON indexed store by Alexey Kobozev and Ilan Bronshtein (https://github.com/akobozev/reji), and "ReDe" dehydrated data module by Adam Lev-Libfeld (https://github.com/TamarLabs/ReDe) rounded out the top five submissions. "PopRank" module for popularity ranking by Sanket More, Louis Valencia, Matthew Kerns and Brian Hoang (https://github.com/SanketMore/PopRank) received honorable mention for effort and design while "Shared Memory support for Redis" by Edgars Irmejs (https://github.com/edgarsi/redis-module-shm) was recognized for being extra hacky.

Launched globally online on Oct. 17, with onsite events held on Nov. 11, in San Francisco and Tel Aviv, the Hackathon submissions ended on Nov. 25. The judging panel consisted of Salvatore San Filippo, Pedro Melo, Francois-Guillaume Ribreau, Dvir Volk and Itamar Haber. Scoring of the submissions was primarily based on innovation, originality, usefulness and potential market impact.
