MITRE Names Julie Bowen Senior Vice President

MCLEAN, VA--(Marketwired - May 26, 2017) - The MITRE Corporation has promoted Julie Bowen to senior vice president.

Bowen has served as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary since 2014, leading MITRE's legal engagements, government relations and ethics and compliance programs.

"As we address new challenges at both the national and global level, Julie will take on a broader role in engaging with MITRE's Board of Trustees, managing risks that come with growing the company's work programs across sponsor organizations, and leading efforts to expand strategic partnerships, outreach efforts and government relationships," said Dr. Jason Providakes, MITRE's president and chief executive officer. "Her legal expertise and insight into our sponsors' challenges will help her make a significant impact in this expanded role."

MITRE operates seven research and development centers for federal agencies, providing innovative, practical solutions for some of our nation's most critical challenges in defense and intelligence, aviation, civil systems, homeland security, the judiciary, healthcare and cybersecurity.

Bowen came to MITRE in 2006 as associate general counsel, having previously held legal and internal outreach positions in the technology and logistics industries and in government. As part of her duties, she oversaw technology transfer, guiding policies and practices in support of transferring MITRE-developed technologies to the public sector through patents and licensing. Since 2008, MITRE has executed 710 licenses and been issued 112 patents.

Bowen is an active member of industry, academic and professional groups including the Executive Circle Advisory Board of the Northern Virginia Technology Council, the Board of Visitors of The Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law and the Association of Corporate Counsel. She has also performed pro-bono work for legal aid organizations with a focus on defending the rights of women, children and the homeless.

Bowen holds a bachelor's degree and a law degree from The Catholic University of America.
