Governments of Canada and Ontario Celebrate Affordable Housing in Brantford and Simcoe

BRANTFORD, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 19, 2017) - The governments of Canada and Ontario held a groundbreaking ceremony for new affordable housing for seniors in Brantford today.

The Honourable Chris Ballard, Ontario's Minister of Housing and Minister Responsible for the Poverty Reduction Strategy, made the announcement today with a representative from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Chris Friel, Mayor of the City of Brantford, also participated in the announcement.

When completed, the new component of the John Noble Home multi-facility site will add 45 units of affordable housing for seniors in Brantford. The development received more than $7.2 million in combined federal and provincial funding through the Investment in Affordable Housing agreement.

A number of other affordable housing developments in Brantford and Simcoe were also celebrated today including:

• Sixteen units of affordable housing for Indigenous individuals and families in the Hotinohsioni facility at 144 Henry Street in Brantford, which received over $2.3 million
  
  
• Four units of affordable housing in Brantford, including an accessible unit and a unit for survivors of domestic violence, which received $584,096
  
  
• Six units of affordable housing at Kent Park Community Homes, at 364 Queen Street North in Simcoe, which received $560,000
  
  
• Fourteen units of affordable housing at Sunfield Homes at 410 Queen Street South in Simcoe, which received nearly $1.3 million.
