The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) Awards Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 26, 2013) - The Royal Society of Canada has awarded 28 prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals. This distinction is an expression of appreciation for significant contributions to scholarship, arts and science, as well as the invaluable services rendered to one's peers and one's community.

The Society held an open nomination process, and a large number of nominations were received for scholars, artists and scientists whose achievements in service to the RSC, and in service to scholarship and the arts in Canada, have been remarkable.

A large number of the medals were awarded in collaboration with Institutional Member universities of the RSC.

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal was created in 2012 to mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. This commemorative medal has been presented over the last year to 60 000 deserving Canadians to celebrate significant contributions and achievements.
