Brampton CPA, CA Wins ICAO Award of Distinction

CPA Ontario Recognizes Its Best and Brightest Under 40

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 17, 2013) - Brampton CPA, CA Jodie Lobana has been recognized by the profession as up-and-coming talent with both laudable past achievements and a very bright future. The ICAO Award of Distinction honours those Chartered Professional Accountants who have made an early impact, bringing distinction to themselves and to their profession through leadership and achievement in their professional, community and/or personal lives.

Jodie, who earned her CA designation in 2000, is the Founder and President of Lobana Consulting Group Inc., which provides consulting services to major companies focused on corporate governance, technology governance, internal audit, risk assessments, Sarbanes Oxley and IFRS conversion services.

In addition to running her own thriving organization, Jodie teaches "Governance of Information Technology" for York University's Master of Financial Accountability (MFAc) program. She also serves as part of the Canadian Public Accountants' Information Management and Technology Advisory Committee. Jodie has assisted University of Waterloo in obtaining Internal Audit Educational Partnership with the Institute of Internal Auditors ("IIA") and is a Director with IIA Toronto Chapter.

Jodie served in the recent past as Audit Committee Member for Compliance Audit Committees of City of Brampton, and Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board. She also volunteers as a career mentor for new immigrants.

As the Award is intended to honour younger CPA, CAs, the age of 40 years has been chosen as a cut-off. As a result, only those born in 1973 or later were eligible for consideration for 2013.

The ICAO Award of Distinction recipients were chosen following a rigorous nomination and selection process which culminated in a secret-ballot vote of the Council. An Award Review Committee - comprised of five current and former Council members - first evaluated all nominations and made its recommendation on each nominee to assist Council members, who then made their own independent evaluation of the nominees. A two-thirds majority vote of the Council was required to earn an Award.

The recipients demonstrate excellence in a number of areas of service and achievement, including education, promotion of the profession, volunteerism and service to the profession and community, career-related achievements, personal interest activities such as sports and the arts, and other distinctions. Their successes are visible in a combination of their professional and personal life endeavours.

The 2013 recipients of the ICAO Award of Distinction are listed alphabetically below, followed by their locality (where residence and business localities differ, both are shown, in that order).

Timothy G. Deacon, CPA, CA Toronto
Alexandra L. Hardy, CPA, CA Kitchener/Waterloo
Edward W. Hastings, CPA, CA Waterloo
Tiffany L. Laferriere, CPA, CA Sudbury
Camillo Lento, CPA, CA Thunder Bay
