ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - September 25, 2014) - Nucleus Medical Media's newest medical animation, created for Exactech, was recently accepted to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons' (AAOS) Orthopaedic Video Theater. The AAOS did not require any revisions before accepting the animation -- a testament to Nucleus' rigorous internal review process, highly trained and credentialed staff, and expert medical review board.
"Having a Nucleus-produced animation accepted without any revisions speaks to the quality of the animation and the expertise of all involved," said Stephen Boyd, the Animation Director at Nucleus. "Congratulations to Nucleus' very own Elizabeth McDonald, Eric Small, Erin Frederikson, Mike Gleason, Leslie Leonard, and all the contributors on this prestigious achievement!"
The Orthopaedic Video Theater receives hundreds of submissions each year and a committee of experts reviews each one. Approximately 40% of submissions fail to pass peer review. Another 30% of videos are accepted conditionally; the authors must make changes to improve the video's clarity, educational value, quality, or relevance.
The animation, titled Biomechanical Summary of Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty, shows a cinematic version of a complex shoulder joint replacement surgery. It explains in-depth the skeletal and muscular structure of the human shoulder and describes how different reverse shoulder prosthesis designs, surgical implantation techniques, and bone morphologies and boney wear patterns impact the biomechanical function of the reverse shoulder prosthesis.
The AAOS's Orthopaedic Video Theater is an online collection of peer-reviewed orthopaedic surgical videos that are exclusively available to AAOS members. The Theater currently includes more than 130 full-length videos on topics from anatomy and arthroscopy to surgical techniques and treatment of complications.
