During an Out-of-This-World Show That Included Performances by David Foster, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Hudson, a Trip to Space Aboard the XCOR® Lynx® Netted $260,000, Adding to the Grand Total of $8.2M for the David Foster Foundation at Their Annual Miracle Gala & Concert, Held This Year in Calgary, AB

VICTORIA, BC--(Marketwired - October 03, 2014) - The more than 800 guests and celebrities attending the event were able to mix and mingle while taking a seat in the XCOR® Lynx® prototype that was on display at the gala, which was held in the WestJet hangar. Bidding for the popular auction item -- which will take one of the next Canadians to space -- was heated, pushing up the total to $260,000 for the David Foster Foundation.

The XCOR® Lynx® space flight package includes a space suit fitting, medical screening and pre-flight training at XCOR headquarters in Mojave, California, followed by a space flight experience onboard the XCOR® Lynx® next to XCOR Chief Test Pilot and NASA Space Shuttle Commander Rick Searfoss. Each XCOR® Lynx® flight includes all the phases of flight, from boost to supersonic in sixty seconds, to the experience of weightlessness and seeing Earth from space for the first time.

"We are so grateful to the XCOR® team for providing us with an out of this world auction experience," says Michael Ravenhill, CEO of the David Foster Foundation. "It was incredible to watch the excitement around the auction item and to see it raise $260,000 for the Foundation. The room was electric and the amount raised was amazing!"

The XCOR® Lynx® auction item was part of an evening that began with the star-studded arrival of guests, VIPs and celebrities along the purple carpet (the Foundation's preferred colour) before entering the completely transformed WestJet hangar. The $8.2M raised during the evening will help support the non-medical expenses of families with children undergoing life-saving pediatric organ transplants.

Guests were treated to performances by Foster, Jennifer Hudson, Jackie Evancho, Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, Brett Kissel, and comedian Sinbad. Legendary rock superstar Steven Tyler brought down the house as he performed a medley of hits during a surprise appearance that helped close the show.

The evening was emceed by CNN's Michaela Pereira, who was joined by other notable guests including hockey commentator and former NHL goalie Kelly Hrudey, Mrs. Laureen Harper, cast members of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, former wrestler Bret "The Hitman" Hart, and Dragon Jim Treliving.

"We are proud to support the great work that the David Foster Foundation does to help children and families needing major organ transplants," says Gregory Claxton, representative for XCOR. "Providing the XCOR® Lynx® trip to space to help raise money for this great cause just felt like a perfect partnership. XCOR® is thrilled that we could provide an auction item that could bring in an incredible $260,000 in support of the families that need it most."

Since 1986, the David Foster Foundation has assisted more than 1,000 Canadian families with children in need of major organ transplants, and provided millions of dollars in direct family support. In 2012, there were 3,404 patients waiting for organ transplants and only 1,168 patients who received transplants. During that time, 161 patients died while waiting for an organ. The Foundation's financial commitment to families ranges from an average of $10,000 per year up to $100,000.
